Success is a state of mind. If you want success, start thinking of yourself as a success.

I think the best stage that describes my current stage of academic self-regulatory ability is Flexibility. The reason I choose this stage is I am focused on my academic goals. I have the self-control to implement the necessary behaviors, thoughts and feelings to reach my academic goals. I believe that I can adjust to the circumstances and still can achieve my goals. For example just a few days ago I thought I am not able to pass my exam and I was ready to drop my class but as soon as I find out that it was too late to drop my class, I was again focused on my task to achieve my goals. I am just trying to adjust with the circumstances. Earlier when my unit 1 assignment was due on Sunday, unfortunately I had to work on the same day. So I tried to finish some of my works on Saturday and rest of it after my work on Sunday. Again just last Friday my friend came to see me and I had my assignment due at the same time. I told my friend to wait for couple of hours let me finish my assignment and will go out. I simply try to push my meeting and get done with my works. Being on this stage, I know I am trying my best to achieve my academic goals but I feel at some point it will hinder me from my academic success. It not good to push everything at the end so I have to organized myself so that I can stay on top of everything. To be on the next level of self-regulatory ability I have to manage the elements of my daily lives to foster the quality of my experiences. I have to be an expert surfer who rides the waves with seeming ease. I need to learn how to accommodate the changes in work schedules, the demands of everyday problems as well as the vicissitudes of life.

A 'Flow' experience is the one in which we are so immersed in the moment that we are not even aware of being happy. When experiencing Flow we lose our sense of time. I have one experience with the Flow that i am going to express. When I was in my English 1301 class I was told to write an essay. I was so focused on writing the essay. I was in the character and just going on and on. I didn’t even realize when my entire classmate have completed their work and left already. When my professor told me that I have 5 minutes left, then I realize that I was giving my exam. I was so focused that lost sense of my time and found me somewhere alone in desert where there is no one with me.

Intent is the ability to set our own goal. The day we born we are set to have some goals. When we are child our parents set goals for us. But as we grow older we have that ability to set our own goals that relate to our Quality World. Sometime the goals our parents set match the goal we set but sometime it different. When I was a child my parents set me a goal to become a doctor but as I grow older I realize that medicine is the right path for me. I was more into electronics and wanted to be an engineer. It is kind of hard to determine where you belong but as we focus it will be clear. I had several goals since I was a child. The first goal was to come abroad to study and get a permanent resident. I am proud that I completed my goal. Once I came to United States I had another goal. I always wanted to bring my parents abroad and thank god I was able to complete that goal too. Now I have another goal to become a successful engineer and get a decent job. I am working on it and if i focus on my academic goals and if my god wants I will be able to complete this as well.

Self-esteem is an accurate view of oneself, grounded in a sense of one's own growth. According to the Branden's six strategies of improving self-esteem, I would choose to take responsibility and to live purposefully to develop myself. The reason I choose these two is I do want to take a responsibilities of my life and my family. I am very responsible for my goals, my behaviors, my feelings and my happiness. I also want to live a very purposeful life. I want to achieve my goals in my life. I will work hard to achieve my goals and fulfill my family desires. I want to make my life full of achievement. As of this moment I want to pass this course with good grades and go forward in my academic goals.

Currently I use subjective time and clock time to manage my own time. To some extent these methods are working fine for me. If I have to plan anything in future I look up calendar and find out which date will be the perfect for me. I like to plan ahead so this is why this method is working perfectly fine for me. I study for about 5-6 hours per week. But sometime it depends, like when i am in a flow I study about 6 hours in a single day. The most efficient time for me to study is on Saturday and Sunday after I wake up and on weekdays before i go to bed. I have to go to my work as well so reason why I mostly study in weekend and at the night time.

Academically, I tend to have a growth mindset because people with this mindset seek challenges, they are motivated to work hard, and they usually have lower anxiety, higher self-esteem, stronger approach behaviors and better success. For me to achieve my goals and to have my Quality World I have to have growth mindset which helps me in every steps of my life.
